Queen Anne's County Integrated Pest Management Program

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a multi-faceted method of controlling pests in fields, gardens, homes, landscapes, and other places that you may work or play. IPM is a prescription approach rather than a preventative approach to pest control, because almost every situation varies with pests, conditions, habitat, control, etc.
  • Identify the problem causing pest, whether it be insect, weed, or disease.
  • Assess the damage, both real and potential.
  • Determine the level of infestation of the pest and what life cycle stages the pest is in.
  • Determine the economic threshold in crops
  • Determine the least toxic method of eliminating the pest.
  • Use pesticides as recommend.
Remember no matter what the pest there is a method to control it. Contact your local Maryland Cooperative Extension office for more details about your pests and how to control them.
