Queen Anne's County Integrated Pest Management Program

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a multi-faceted method of controlling pests in fields, gardens, homes, landscapes, and other places that you may work or play. IPM is a prescription approach rather than a preventative approach to pest control, because almost every situation varies with pests, conditions, habitat, control, etc.

Identify the problem causing pest, whether it be insect, weed, or disease.
Assess the damage, both real and potential.
Determine the level of infestation of the pest and what life cycle stages the pest is in.
Determine the economic threshold in crops
Determine the least toxic method of eliminating the pest.
Use pesticides as recommend.

Remember no matter what the pest there is a method to control it. Contact your local Maryland Cooperative Extension office for more details about your pests and how to control them.
