QA County FCS
Family and Consumer Sciences(FCS) strives to meet the needs of Kent and Queen Anne's County families in improving diet and health and building and sustaining their families. It resources a variety of education programs to improve life skills and prevent problems that are offered by MCE, often in collaboration with other agencies and organizations. FCS, Queen Anne's County helped make a difference in the lives of 1,970 families through 92 programs in 2000.
- Eight hundred seventy-eight families and youth learned basic food safety handling skills including proper handwashing, handling ground meats and eggs, and use of a thermometer.
- Three hundred nine young families were given seeds and taught container gardening and the value of including freshly grown fruits and vegetables in the diet.
- Two hundred two childcare providers attended training for certification or re-certification including classes in Children and Violence, Food Safety Teaching Tolerance, and Child Care as a Business.
- Four hundred thirty-four families and individuals participated in one or more personal finance classes. These participants identified and set financial goals, developed and adjusted spending plans, improved record keeping systems, and developed a savings/retirement/estate plan.
